Anise Cookies

Licorice lovers of all ages will enjoy the flavor of anise seed in these delicious cookies.

Prep: 10 min – Chill: 2 hrs – Cook: 24 min

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons McCormick® Anise Seed
1 egg

1. Place butter and sugar in large mixer bowl and cream until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract and mix well. Add baking powder and salt to sifted flour and sift again. Gradually add dry ingredients and anise seed to butter mixture, mixing thoroughly after each addition.

2. Shape dough into roll and wrap in wax paper. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.


3. Preheat oven to 400°F. Lightly grease cookie sheets. Cut chilled dough into thin slices and place 1-inch apart on prepared cookie sheets. Bake 8 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from cookie sheets and place on wire racks to cool.
